Dave´s Mugo Pine No. 2

Dave collected this pine in May 2009. I find, it has a typical traditional Japanese character ... even without doing any styling-action!

=> Bonsai for lazy mates :)=

I´m curious what he will do out of it!

Monkey smile :)

Great, old bark!

  2. Hey huertoimprovisado,

    thanks!
I think it´s very difficult to estimate the age of Mugos but the rough bark, the wounds and especially the diameter of the trunc - considering that the tree was originaly in very poor soil and high altitude - makes me guess its age > 2 centuries (very carefull assumption!).
When cutting back other Mugos I had a look at the annual rings of the branches - they are always VERY nerrow and therefore challenging to count.
Next time I´ll give it a closer look to make more accurate statements!
I must say, I was never much interested into the exact age of my trees - but you made me curious! I´ll do some research in that field ;-)

    Cheers,
    David
