Pinus Mugo No. 5

Today was the right time for the dead wood. This mugo was collected in October 2009 in the Austrian Alps. First image right after transplanting.

Dave´s Berberis Thunbergii

The first step that Dave made today was an extreme cut back. In a few years it´s going to look fantastic!

New Ash a Step further

This tree has been traded few weeks ago at Walter Pall´s. Yesterday I decided to shorten the longest trunk to make the tree look more compact. Besides, the sunbeams will be able to reach the important parts of the tree and now I´m hoping for new buddings on the right spots.

The nebari is far away from perfect what eased my decision for picking up a new front side.

Now, after first styling (first image = front):

The new shari is still in progress and it will look awful during the next few years - but that´s O.K. for now. I´m not aiming to have a shari on top, but rather a decomposed hollow!

As you can see, I cleaved the cut surface with a chisel. In this way, the wood is able to resorb the moisture even faster. I hope my plan is going to function :)

Saxifraga Caesia

The first Alpine flower was transplanted into an accent bowl from Takahama Kiln (Carlos Hebeisen) and the second into a transitory, Chinese bowl.

Fagus Sylvatica No. 1

I´d like to show you the progress of my first beech, bought from Juerg Rufer in spring time 2007.

This image shows the tree right after the first cut-back in spring 2007:

2008 was a bad year because the tree lost almost all of his leaves due to a sunburn. I was so unhappy that I couldn´t take any photo at all :(

Progress in 2009:

Baby Larch Update

More than one year is past, since the larch has been transplanted. I´m quite satisfied with the progress of this fresh composition.

New Fraxinus Ornus

During my few-hour visit at Walter Pall´s I have traded 2 mugo pines for one ash and some other accessories.

These two pines used to be mine:

Visiting Walter Pall

Finally I had a chance to get to know Walter personally. Some impressions of this day:
