Scouting for Fagus Sylvatica

I have found some very promising mountain-beeches today! I really love when trees are hollowed, gnarled and maltered like the examples below. But there is only a catch ... ;-) Fagus trees are unfortunately not that hardy as Mediterranean species.

So if you want to be successfull with fagus, you must be patient! Such old examples are not able to be collected immediately. The only thing you can do is air layering ... and that´s anything but easy. It´s gonna be my first air laying project in the wild.















That´s the biggest and probably the oldest piece I have found. The only thing I did, was cleaning the surface around the trunk.
