Repotting Pinus Mugo No. 1

The warm days began to show the spring awakenings on one of my first collected yamadoris. At long last it was time to transplant it into a smaller, temporary pot.

Pines act in general quite sensitive when their roots get shortened. That´s why I decided to handle it in several steps.
Maybe in another 3 or 4 years, the final bowl will be 15 centimeters smaller than the current tokoname training pot.

  1. wow... I will always be in love with your mugos!

may you can give me some info about the soil you use for repotting? akadama, kiriu, volcanica,...¿?

    thanks in advance!

  2. Hi Balázs,

that´s right ... but not after this action. Either transplanting - or styling, but both things at a single blow is an absolute NO GO!

I prefer to transplant my yamadoris first into smaller bowls. Then the styling and finally the transplanting into bonsai ceramics ... step by step :-)

    Greetings,
    Igor

  3. Thank you for the nice compliment, Alex :) According the soil mix you guessed it right!

For pines I usually use akadama, pomice (kiryu), fibotherm (broken, expanded clay), lava and a handful of peat. That´s a quite porous mixture and a sheer delight for watering :)

  9. If the tree will be beautiful a couple a months before the Noelanders Trophy, the chamaecyparis that compete and was nominated fourth place in 2007 I will show again.
The tree is much more matured and is looking better now when it was exposed in 2007.
    Greetings Ed
